Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate proficiency in general biology and in their area of specialization in order to succeed in careers and graduate programs.
- Students will demonstrate proficiency in calculus, general and organic chemistry and general physics in order to understand biological concepts involving these disciplines and to pursue graduate work requiring basic background in these areas.
- Students will learn and apply basic experimental design and research techniques using modern equipment. This will include use of proper controls and data analysis.
- Students will develop the ability to locate, critically read and evaluate the scientific literature, particularly the validity of scientific hypotheses, data and models.
- Students will skillfully communicate scientific information in written and oral formats.
- Students will develop skill in critically evaluating the relationship of scientific theories with ethical and religious perspectives, particularly those common to Reformed Christians.
- Secondary biology education students will become sufficiently proficient in disciplinary knowledge to pass the state certification test in biology.
- Secondary biology education students will be competent to develop appropriate pedagogical methods for the classroom.
