Exceptional students need exceptional teachers. Our classes are taught by professors who are experts in their subject areas. Along with special education, math, and science minors—all especially important in today’s educational settings—Trinity also offers an ESL/Bilingual interdisciplinary minor. Your coursework and field experiences at Trinity will culminate with your student teaching experience during your last year of college.
As a Trinity senior, you will build your skills with intensive and extensive studies in K-12 schools. You may choose to participate in up to two internship placements during the school year. Your internship experiences in both public and private schools will expand your network and help you gain the skills needed to develop your teaching expertise and to build your résumé. Student teaching internships have proven invaluable in helping our students affirm their calling, learn from master teachers, and make connections for the future.
Trinity education students are among the most qualified teachers in the field, and our excellent reputation with school districts in many parts of the United States and around the world helps our graduates in securing a teaching position. Trinity is accredited by the state of Illinois and is near metropolitan Chicago. As a result, students have the opportunity to learn and practice teaching in diverse settings.
While completing the general education curriculum, you will also take your first education courses. Education classes are combined with hands-on experience to provide a full spectrum of learning. Classes for your minor, endorsement, and specialization are taken through the pertinent departments (e.g., history, business, biology, and mathematics) are taught by professors who are experts in their subjects. Coursework and field experiences culminate with the capstone of your program, the student teaching internship.
To serve effectively, future educators need a passion for teaching, encouraging, and fostering growth in their students. This passion is evidenced in three ways: love of God, love of students, and love of subject matter. As a Trinity student and graduate, you will have opportunities to share your enthusiasm for the Lord and for learning to create an effective, positive learning environment.
Because class sizes at Trinity allow education professors to get to know you personally, you will receive exceptional mentoring and coaching, meaningful recommendations, and assistance in your job placement.
