The DeVos Athletics and Recreation Center is where students are equipped to embrace and articulate a Christian perspective of physical activity and stewardship of the body that enables lifelong service to God. In the majors and pre-professional programs offered in physical education, exercise science, sport and exercise studies, and pre-physical therapy, professors teach fitness, sports, and leisure from a Christian perspective.
The Center also provides vital space for the intramural and intercollegiate programs. Students from around the country and the world gain valuable life-lessons in training, teamwork, and testifying to God’s grace on—and off—the court.
DeVos Gymnasium provides a top-notch competition arena for basketball and volleyball and fosters a sense of TrollNation pride for the fans. Also serving intercollegiate teams are locker room facilities that house six separate team rooms, a training room, and improved laundry and equipment storage areas. Creating an inviting atmosphere, the facility provides an open lobby for students to informally gather and a concession area open during contests. The athletics and physical education staff occupy offices on the upper level, which also features a conference room and hospitality suite with a view of the court.
Mitchell Memorial Gymnasium
The Mitchell Memorial Gymnasium is the center of activity for recreation and intramurals and includes practice space for the intercollegiate teams. The renovation in 2012-13 of this original gym provided improved lighting, new heating and cooling systems, a fresh coat of paint, a refinished gym floor, the removal of the bleachers, new scoreboards and backboards, and a drop-down batting cage.
Huizenga Fitness Center
The Huizenga Fitness Center provides an environment where every Trinity student—from a fourth-year baseball player to a student juggling classes and a job—can train for the intercollegiate season or workout for general good health. The cardiovascular machines and weight training equipment provide a variety of options for students to pursue health and fitness. The bouldering wall creates a unique fitness experience and a flexible-use open floor space can be utilized for core activities, speed and agility training, stretching, and other alternative activities.
