Dr. Minkyoo Shin

Dr. Minkyoo Shin earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and a Master’s degree from the Yale School of Music. She received her doctorate in organ performance and literature with a minor in music theory at Indiana University. Her teachers have included Peggy Haas Howell, Thomas Murray, Donald Sutherland, and Christopher Young. She also participated in the North German Academy Summer Festival where she studied with Harald Vogel. An avid proponent of new music for organ, her dissertation focused on the Metric Analysis of Selected Modern “Dances” for organ, an approach that has informed her teaching methods to a great extent.

Shin is an active recitalist, having performed all over the U.S. as well as in Germany and Austria. She has been featured on Chicago’s classical station WFMT 98.7 as part of “Make Music Chicago”. She has also received a number of awards including finalists in the AGO’s National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance, first-place winner in the Region III young artist’s competition of the American Guild of Organist and finalist in the Yale University Institute of Sacred Music Biennial Organ Competition. In addition to her teaching at Trinity, Shin serves as music director at Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Northfield, Ill.

She resides in Chicago with her husband, Mischa Zupko and their son Leo.

Shin joined Trinity’s music faculty in 2006. She teaches organ and piano lessons, directs the chamber music ensemble, and teaches music theory.
