Deborah Knot

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Education

M.S. Mathematics, Michigan State University
B.S. Mathematics, Calvin College

I would like the students to develop an appreciation for mathematics and how it influences the world God created.

Expertise:
Deborah Knot taught at Trinity in the 1990’s and thoroughly enjoyed the teaching experience. Seeing her students understand new concepts was very gratifying. She took a hiatus from teaching because she had six children and was running out of hours in her day. Now as her children are grown, she is happy to return to teaching and enjoy seeing the lightbulb moment in her students twenty years later.

Knot always loved mathematics, and the learning of mathematics. She has been blessed with many opportunities to share that enthusiasm with students of all ages. Besides teaching college students, She has enjoyed working with the math triatholon both as a planner and a participant. She has also enjoyed teaching middle school for several years and doing math activities with gradeschool students of all ages.

Field Interests:
Mathematics teaches us how to think. In whatever field that a student enters, they will do better at that field if they have a strong mathematics background. From business to medicine to most liberal arts endeavors, the ability to think about a problem mathematically is a very useful skill. Her goal is to help her students to develop an appreciation for mathematics and how it influences the world God created.

When she’s not teaching:
Knot has six children living all over the globe and enjoys visiting them when she’s not teaching.

Courses

  • Math Concepts for Teachers I
  • Math Concepts for Teachers II
  • Finite Mathematics
