“I would like for students to see their profession as more than just a job – to hopefully realize that their work matters and through their work they have the capacity to impact another human being and maybe change their life for the better.”

Professor Yuri Guzman desires to make a difference through her career and “perhaps leave the world a little bit better than I found it.” She does this by encouraging her students to treat their patients like family – the way Christ taught us to treat each other.

Primarily interested in health professions and clinical science, Guzman teaches her students to look beyond the physical and to focus on ensuring the continued health of our communities.

What drew her to Trinity:
Guzman learned about Trinity through her work colleagues. “I really love the devotion to students and the student experience, [as well as] the thoughtfulness that goes into ensuring that students succeed and thrive both scholarly and personally.”

Research interests:
Health disparities are the focus of Guzman’s research, as well as differences in responses to illnesses based on genetic variations across people of different ethnicities and race.

When she’s not teaching:
Guzman likes to read, bake, and tend to her 16 succulent plants at home. “I am also a huge Real Madrid fan and catch as many games as I am able to.”
